Frequently Asked Questions
Does your consultation cost anything?
Our consultation is free of charge for you. It doesn't matter if you're new to Germany, self-employed, or running a company. You only pay the insurance premiums to the respective providers. We earn our income through commissions from insurance companies.
Which insurance policies do I need as an expat in Germany?
Many expats are unsure which insurance policies are truly necessary. Generally, we recommend:
- Liability insurance: If you accidentally cause damage to someone.
- Home contents insurance: Protects your property against burglary, water, or fire damage.
- Health insurance: Mandatory in Germany – we help you find the right statutory or private solution.
- Legal expenses insurance (optional): Support in legal conflicts, e.g., with landlords or in traffic.
We advise you individually and according to your life situation.
Can I get advice in English?
Yes, absolutely. We advise people from all over the world daily: in English or German, whichever is easiest for you. Our advice is clear not only in language but also in content. We explain everything clearly and take our time to answer your questions.
What happens if I leave Germany again?
No problem, we also support you when you move abroad. We'll help you cancel your insurance policies in time or switch to international alternatives if needed. We also advise you on which documents or proofs you need and what to consider to avoid unnecessary costs.
When can I get private health insurance?
As an employee, you can switch to private health insurance if your income exceeds the so-called annual income threshold (2025: approx. €69,300 gross). Self-employed individuals, freelancers, and civil servants can be privately insured regardless of their income. We'd be happy to help you find the best option for your needs.
What if I can't find my social security number?
You automatically receive your social security number when you start your first social insurance-contributing job in Germany. You can find it on your payslip or in your social security card. If you have lost it, you can apply for it at the German Pension Insurance (Deutsche Rentenversicherung) – we are happy to help you with that.
